You don’t want to buy a new car without taking a test drive, but do you know what you should be looking for? If it has been awhile since you’ve purchased a new vehicle, you should know that much of the technology is going to be different to you. Use this handy checklist to remind you of some important tips on your new car purchase here at Beach Boulevard of Cars, your car dealership here in Huntington Beach, CA.

Before You Leave the House

Your inspection process needs to begin before you ever step onto the dealer’s lot. Make a list of things you must have in the new car. Then you should have another list of things you want, but don’t need. This will help you to remember what is important when you are standing at the dealership. To make the process of test driving go a little smoother, you’ll want to have your driver’s license and proof of insurance already copied. It will save time when you are ready to take that drive.

At the Car Lot

Make sure you drive a model as close to what you are looking for as the dealership possibly has (luckily for you, Beach Boulevard of Cars has 11 dealerships to choose from, so we are sure to have what you are looking for). This is going to help you get the best idea if this is the right car for you. Have the salesperson demonstrate all the features of the car before you head out. This is a great time to play with the audio system, temperature control, and any other special features that will interest you.

You’ll also want to check out the cargo space. Is this going to be enough room for you when traveling or heading out for Christmas with the family? Take a turn in every seat of the car. Is it going to be comfortable for your passengers? If the salesperson drives the car off the lot during the test drive, you might want to sit in the back for the ride.

While Driving

Don’t just drive around the block! Ask if you can take it to the highway, a crowded parking lot and maybe even a local hill. If you’ve mapped out a course ahead of time, you could ask the salesperson if they are agreeable to take that route.

While driving the new vehicle, be sure you turn off all the audio equipment. Hopefully, you’ve checked it earlier and now is the time to listen for any outside noises to the car. Pay close attention to the smoothness of the ride. Is it going to be comfortable on a long journey?

While driving, check your visibility. Will you be able to see clearly around you? You’ll also want to check the acceleration of your vehicle. Will you be able to easily merge on a highway or will it be too much power for you?

Next, you will want to check the responsiveness. Are you able to steer comfortably? Does the vehicle drive straight when the wheel is held center? You’ll also want to feel secure when cornering. Once the test drive is over, just remember you are under no obligation to purchase the car. However, if you were impressed with the vehicle, it might just be time to begin the paperwork!
