Surf City Surf Dog (Sept. 28)

Who knew that pooches could hit the waves? The Surf City Surf Dog event does by including a dog surfing competition with multiple heats. Each canine competitor has 12 minutes to catch his or her top five waves as judged by local surf celebrities based on overall ability, confidence, and length of ride. The whole family is invited to enjoy doggie play zones, food trucks, vendor booths, and pet adoptions. The event is free and welcomes your four-legged pets. Numerous charities have benefited from this celebration, including Golden Retriever Rescue, OC SPCA, and Huntington Dog Beach.

Great Pacific Airshow (Oct. 5-6)

You can take to the sky from the sands of Huntington Beach at the Great Pacific Airshow. The event is free to the public and can be viewed from the pier, the sands, parking lots, RV lots, and the water whether you have a boat or not. However, also available are tickets for VIP seating that includes excellent views and a catered lunch. Special guests include the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the Red Arrows aerobatic team from the Royal Air Force, and the US Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II Demo Team. Leave your drone at home and bring a beach umbrella, hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water to drink.

An Evening in Wonderland (Oct. 12)

This annual extravaganza benefits WISEPlace, a nonprofit that serves women in crisis and experiencing homelessness by providing housing, clothing, and training in vocational and life skills. This organization is “one of the few places unaccompanied homeless women can go to begin again.” Expect dinner at the SeaCliff Country Club and a distinctive silent and live auction.

California Food and Wine Festival (Oct. 25-26)

The California Food and Wine Festival is your chance to partake of vintage red and white wines poured by the state’s best wineries. Your wine tasting gets complemented by gourmet appetizers served from the region’s best chefs and food specialists. Live music and beautiful oceans views will enhance the experience. Go to Bordeaux Pass that gets you into both days of the event. You must be over 21 to attend.
