It’s a great place to buy fresh seasonal produce, gather with family or friends, or hold hands with your significant other as you stroll down the three blocks of Main Street that are closed to car traffic.
Bring your favorite outdoor chair or picnic blanket to enjoy the Huntington Beach Concert Band Summer Series, which delights from the concert bandstand at Thomas Ridley Central Park. This family-friendly series entertains with such varied musical offerings as jazz, blues, big-band, and Dixieland. You even get free Latin and swing dance lessons before certain performances. Are you physically fit or need inspiration to get in shape? Then come to the Lauren Powers Summer Classic, a fitness competition, and expo. You can show off your bod or watch others do the same in such categories as Teens Physique, Men’s Bodybuilding, Bikini, Shirtless Tux, and Masters 45+ Categories. You can also have fun with entertainment, food booths, and retail vendors. Contestants must pay a registration fee, but members of the public can attend for free.
This nine-day celebration of the city’s favorite past-time ranks Van’s US Open of Surfing as the summer’s biggest event. If you’re not catching the waves with the sport’s top surfers, you can watch them hang ten from the beach or the pier. When chasing wheels is more your speed, check out the skateboarding and BMX competitions. In between heats, you can appreciate vendor booths, art exhibits, outdoor movie showings, music performances, and meet & greets with the athletes.
To benefit the Free Reign Foundation that takes care of abused horses, the Fourth Annual Summer Classic Grand Prix Gala offers a $15,000 competition for show jumpers. Your event admission covers a catered dinner, a live auction of unique experiences, and a live performance by Americana artist Templeton Thompson.
