The winter cold can be damaging to your vehicle and it is coming soon in Orange County. That’s why you need to take the time and prepare in advance before the cold sets in. While we don’t live in snow (thank you, Southern California), we can still get some cold snaps. Here at Beach Boulevard of Cars, we value you, your safety, and your vehicle! Here are our three best tips on prepping your car for winter weather.

Monitor Tire Pressure

At least once per month, you want to make sure that you check the tire pressure. Your tire pressure can drop during colder temperatures. An under-inflated tire does not wear well and tends to under perform. Even if your warning light hasn’t come on, it’s always best to give them a look before, during, and after winter hits.

Check the inside of your driver’s door jam to find out the proper inflation level for your car. You also want to have all-season tires installed if you drive in conditions that go below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Inspect Your Windshield and Wiper Blades

If there are any cracks or chips in your windshield, they can easily become more troublesome during cooler weather. Have them repaired now to avoid costly issues later. It is also wise to replace your wiper blades as often as necessary to keep your windshield clear. Test out the defrost system to ensure it is in working order before heading out on the road.

Test Your Battery

During the colder weather, your battery capacity decreases. It is wise to have a mechanic inspect the battery and test it to ensure that it is still offering the best performance possible. During winter, the battery capacity gets robbed easier and under-performing batteries will not last.

If you want to extend the life of your battery, park your car in a garage. It is also smart to carry jumper cables with you in case your car breaks down. Not only does this protect you in an emergency but it also enables you to be a good citizen for others in need.
