Purchasing a new car should be fun and exciting, but you should never rush it. Before making such a large commitment, you have to consider your requirements and needs. What might be the perfect car for someone else might not suite your lifestyle at all. We recently blogged about different factors to consider when buying a new car, and today we wanted to dive a bit deeper into one of the most important- your driving habits. Driving habits should be one of the biggest determinants in choosing a new car, and we here at Beach Boulevard of Cars wanted to give you some flags to look out for when weighing pros and cons of your next vehicle.

What does your daily drive look like?

Is your work near or far? Do you cover a lot of miles on a daily basis during your commute? Are most of those miles freeway miles or city miles? These are all things you should be considering when purchasing a new car. If you live relatively close to work, an electric vehicle might be perfect for you. If you live farther, a hybrid or fuel-efficient sedan might be the best bet.

Is Comfort a Priority?

If you want the extra space or need to carry kids/stuff around, a smaller compact or a sedan might just not cut it out for you. In such an event, you’ll be far better suited to a larger SUV or a wagon, both of which offer plenty of room for both passengers and cargo. Larger crossovers and luxurious SUVs tend to have a softer ride which absorbs the bumps a lot better, but they’re bulkier and more difficult to maintain than something smaller like a midsize sedan.

How Important is your overall efficiency?

Would you rather have the looks or the efficiency? If it’s efficiency, the above questions and more all need to work together to help you choose the right vehicle. If your driving consists of mostly city miles, a hybrid makes a lot of sense, especially in stop and go traffic. Likewise, a larger engine is better suited to highway cruising since you won’t be putting it under a lot of load. Naturally, if you’re using the vehicle, say a pickup, as a workhorse, you might need the extra power to haul everything around. You’ll sacrifice a bit of MPG, but be able to complete your work effortlessly.
